The empire strikes backIn recent weeks, we've taken huge steps towards blocking spam accounts on LiveJournal. In fact, we've suspended as many as 30,000 accounts in a single day! We've implemented several pre-emptive measures to prevent the creation of spam accounts, and we've honed our detection of suspicious content. Spam bots are a crafty lot, so we'll continue to refine our tactics and keep up the good fight to keep you safe from spam attacks on LiveJournal.
RSS feeds againIf you're addicted to , icanhaschzbrgr, or other syndicated feeds, we're pleased to report that we've resolved the update error that was mucking up your RSS feeds. While content was being pulled correctly, it wasn't being posted to the feeds themselves. Late last week, we finally nailed down what we hope was the root problem, so content should post properly. We thank you for your patience.

Unless I'm hanging from a tree or getting fucked in my ears. hahahah (little joke) Anyway. . . so for those of you who like this sort of thing I hope I am able to tickle your fancy! hahaha And if you don't really care for this silly ticklish stuff no worries. . .I'm still my bad little naughty self *wink*

| Had a very relaxing weekend with hubby and the kids. Worked in my garden Saturday morning, went for a motorcycle ride Saturday afternoon, then went to a Halloween party Saturday night. Sunday we just hung out at the house and BBQ'ed. Sometimes my life is not very exciting but that's OK! I like simplicity. hahahaha Today I am going for a walk to soak up some vitamin C while the sun is still out. Will edit some videos later when I return. Just a nice relaxing day with my gears set to "Cruise Control" . . . lol Hope your Monday is a nice one too : )

| EDIT: If you're reading this, our maintenance is OVER! The problem was not found on our equipment, which means we'll have to work with our ISP to fix this small problem -- which also means another maintenance window in the future -- but at least we have eliminated our side.
Thank you everyone, and a special shout out to rekoil for giving me a great suggestion AND also the opportunity to feel like I've just called in to a local radio station.
Have a great day, night or afternoon wherever you may be.

Hi everyone, sorry for the late notice but I'm going to have to do some testing on 1 of our 4 internet circuits TONIGHT; Friday night or Saturday morning depending on which time zone you're in.
Most of us shouldn't notice any impact, though there may be some slowness or lag when I switch traffic on to our other ISP circuits and then another hit when I stop the tests. If a page won't load or times out, try hitting refresh 1 or 2 times and it should load then. If it doesn't work at all... trust me, I'll be typing really really really fast to try to undo whatever I just did. Hopefully you'll have some Halloween candy (if you're in the USA and celebrate that kind of thing) nearby to take away the bitterness of a small site outage. :(
Here's the handy-dandy Website That I Always Use to get a feel for when the maintenance will start in your area. Our site traffic historically dips on Friday afternoons until Saturday morning which is why we tend to pick this time for maintenance work.
( tech details )
status.livejournal.org will, of course be updated before and after the maintenance window. Or else marta will get mad at me. :D

| Wow. . . It's hard to believe that this time last week I was in Orlando Florida sipping on red wine and farting out butt nuggets by the pool (that was an inside joke that only my friends will understand) And now here I am a week later freezing my ass off and all wrapped up in a cozy blanket! I admit I haven't gone for any walks this week like I usually do, but it took the entire week for me to catch up on my routine. My youngest son gets back from Science Camp today : ) I really enjoyed the peace and quiet while he was gone but now I am starting to miss him, so I admit it will be good to see him again. What good is a house if ya don't have kids running around, arguing, slamming doors, leaving cereal bowls on the floor, and leaving the toilet seat up? hahahaha We will all be going to a Halloween Party Saturday night after they get their candy, smash some pumpkins, and ditch a few doorbells. . . (just kidding). . . Although it is a tradition in my home to throw our pumpkins in the street after Halloween. It just feels good, you should try it some time! Don't worry they are biodegradable. hahaha

| I'm not a religious person by any means. I live my life and try to treat people as I want to be treated. I try to make time for people who most people would laugh at. I try to encourage my friends to not laugh at some people's mis-fortunes. I try to treat people with open-ness and respect, and if something needs to be said about their behavior, well I do that too LOL But it is the way that I would want everyone to treat me... I'm not perfect but I do try...
I read this today and it made me think... not about the religious-ness about the message, but instead about the deeper meaning. Be honest... how many times have you seen someone dirty, untidy, or down on their luck and you probably didn't have much positive things to say about them or maybe you were rude or even mean to them. But next time a thought like that crosses your mind, please try to think first about why they might be like that. The answer could surprise you...
Before I share this story, I have another to share from personal experience. Hubby and I are selling some stuff on Ebay and one of our auctions ended on the 26th. As of yesterday we still had not had payment from the item which sold for $200. Hubby was going through the roof... "why the fuck do people bid on shit if they don't plan on paying for it... the person isn't even answering our emails!" For some reason I stepped back and instead of joining in on the tirade, I said let's wait until tomorrow to see if they contact us. I said maybe something has happened in his family and he can't get to the computer. Turns out we got an email that night that apologized and said there was a death in the family and he had to leave unexpectedly. Hubby felt bad. And it proves that point... Let's try to have more patience with each other and not jump to BAD conclusions all the time. One person at a time... the world may just become a (slightly LOL) happier place :)
I showered and shaved............. I adjusted my tie. I got there and sat.............. In a pew just in time. Bowing my head in prayer......... As I closed my eyes. I saw the shoe of the man next to me..... Touching my own. I sighed. With plenty of room on either side...... I thought, 'Why must our soles touch?' It bothered me, his shoe touching mine... But it didn't bother him much. A prayer began: 'Our Father'............. I thought, 'This man with the shoes, has no pride. They're dusty, worn, and scratched. Even worse, there are holes on the side!' 'Thank You for blessings,' the prayer went on. The shoe man said............... A quiet 'Amen.' I tried to focus on the prayer....... But my thoughts were on his shoes again. Aren't we supposed to look our best. When walking through that door? 'Well, this certainly isn't it,' I thought, Glancing toward the floor. Then the prayer was ended........... And the songs of praise began. The shoe man was certainly loud...... Sounding proud as he sang. His voice lifted the rafters........ His hands were raised high. The Lord could surely hear. The shoe man's voice from the sky. It was time for the offering...... And what I threw in was steep. I watched as the shoe man reached.... Into his pockets so deep. I saw what was pulled out......... What the shoe man put in. Then I heard a soft 'clink' . As when silver hits tin. The sermon really bored me......... To tears, and that's no lie. It was the same for the shoe man... For tears fell from his eyes. At the end of the service...... As is the custom here. We must greet new visitors, And show them all good cheer. But I felt moved somehow.............. And wanted to meet the shoe man. So after the closing prayer........ I reached over and shook his hand. He was old and his skin was dark..... And his hair was truly a mess. But I thanked him for coming......... For being our guest. He said, 'My names' Charlie........... I'm glad to meet you, my friend.' There were tears in his eyes........ But he had a large, wide grin. 'Let me explain,' he said.......... Wiping tears from his eyes. ; ; 'I've been coming here for months.... And you're the first to say 'Hi.'' 'I know that my appearance.........'Is not like all the rest. 'But I really do try................'To always look my best.' 'I always clean and polish my shoes..'Before my very long walk. 'But by the time I get here.........'They're dirty and dusty, like chalk.' My heart filled with pain.......... And I swallowed to hide my tears. As he continued to apologize........ For daring to sit so near He said, 'When I get here...........'I know I must look a sight. 'But I thought if I could touch you..'Then maybe our souls might unite.' I was silent for a moment........... Knowing whatever was said Would pale in comparison... I spoke from my heart, not my head. 'Oh, you've touched me,' I said......'And taught me, in part; 'That the best of any man............'Is what is found in his heart.' The rest, I thought,................. This shoe man will never know. Like just how thankful I really am... That his dirty old shoe touched my soul You are special to me and you have made a difference in my life. I respect you, and truly cherish you. Send this to your friends, No matter how often you talk, Or how close you are, And send it to the person who sent it to you. Let old friends know you haven't forgotten them, and tell new friends you never will. Remember, everyone needs a friend.. Someday you might feel like you have no friends at all. Just remember this e-mail and take comfort in knowing that Someone out there cares about you..... And always will. Live each day as your last, it could be. -- In God We Trust | comments: Leave a comment |

In response to user comments from last week, we want to let you know that we'll remain LJ cut-free for the next month in order to get more eyeballs on our evolving newsletter. As for product coverage, that continues to be our top priority. For more granular detail, however, we recommend you join lj_releases.
Super-tweak for Yandex searchSome of our beta testers expressed privacy concerns using the Yandex search engine. Here's why: Last week, when you ran a search, you could see the usernames (and only the usernames) of everyone who commented on an entry, even if that entry was switched to Private or Friends Only after it was originally indexed. You could NOT see the actual comments from Friends Only or Private posts. In response to your input, we've implemented a fix to keep all user activity currently marked Friends Only or Private completely hidden. If you'd prefer your public content not to be indexed by Yandex, click here and use the settings labeled Search Inclusion (this covers your entire journal) and/or Comment Search Inclusion (which covers comments only). To test drive Yandex search now, click here.
Postcards from the edgeSeveral years ago, we asked LiveJournal users to send postcards to help us decorate our dull, white-washed offices. Since a good idea warrants repetition, we're at it again (same issue, new address). We hope you'll surround us with LiveJournal love by sending your postcards to Frank the Goat, Esq., c/o LiveJournal, Inc., 539 Bryant Street, Suite 210, San Francisco, CA 94107. We'll post snapshots right here. Be sure to include your username, since we'll randomly pick 10 lucky recipients to win free paid account time.
Conquer Writer's BlockHere are some excerpts from this week's most popular question of the day: If a friend or relative makes a racist or homophobic remark, do you tend to confront them or let it slide? Are you more likely to confront them if it offends you directly or someone else who seems reluctant to speak up?- I find it easier to stand up for other people, and i wouldn't let it slide if they made a rude or hurtful comment.
- Usually if a friend makes a racist or homophobic remark, I tend to let it slide. I think that while i would not say such things myself, I have no right to censor those around me.
- This happens all of the time. I confront some relatives, but I refuse to if they are drunk or watch Fox News.
- I'd let it slide if it was just a private remark... As much as I despise bigotry and intolerance, I know that you can't change people-they have to change themselves ...
- Confront! confront! confront! Politely, but without equivocation.
- SPEAK UP. Always, always, always speak up. Letting something slide lets ignorance win. No matter if it offends me directly, or someone else, I will confront the speaker and let them know that's not ok.
- I don't get offended personally. As an immigrant, woman, gay and person of color if I took every single potentially offensive remark seriously I wouldn't get anything done.
- I punch them in the balls. With my mind.
- I do speak up, but often very timidly because I feel that I'm white and therefore I don't really have any authority to lecture someone on what's racist and what isn't...
- Generally speaking, I do not let this shit fly, because it reduces me as a person, to this non-person and it replicates the destructive discourse that makes sure that sexual minorities, racial minorities, women, people with disabilities, trans people and every intersection thereof into something other than human... And sometimes... I'm just too tired to deal with it, so I roll my eyes, make a sarcastic remark and hope the conversation moves on quickly.

| Today I am finally getting back in my grove. Still sorting through all the pictures and videos taken in Orlando but for the most part I'm getting back to my normal routine and time zone. Wow it sure is cold and windy outside. . . . just another reminder I am home. hahahaha My youngest son is at a Science camp all week and my husband is working out of town. . . so that just leave me home with 1 child. The house is very quiet and relaxing. . . perfect for my "back to reality" recovery. hahahaha I am going to make myself a hot cup of tea then go for a walk. Hope your day is nice too : )

| While I am sad to leave Florida it's always good to be home. Thank God I had no problem with my flights. In fact all my flights left on time, arrived early, and my luggage made it home too. Now I am going to be very busy for the next few weeks going through all the fabulous pictures and videos we took. Once again Summer and KC were the most gracious and amazing hosts. They made sure I was well fed and had plenty of wine to drink every night. hehehehe *wink* They even gave me my own room, bathroom, and computer desk . They always make sure I am comfortable when ever I stay with them. I just shake my head at how lucky I am to have such great friends. . . sigh. . . and meeting Danielle and her husband was definitely a big highlight of the trip as well. Let me just say. . .that girl can KISS!!! Man-oh-Man is she a little passionate cutie!!! hahahaha I can't wait to post the video on my site. And she did a GREAT job making her first GIANTESS video as well. I will edit all the footage this week and post some goodies on my site ASAP!
Here is a picture of me making a naughty video with my toy underwater.
